AML/CFT Overview

Money Laundering (ML) and Terrorism Financing (TF) are serious threats to global security, the integrity of the financial system, and sustainable growth. The Financial Action Task Force (FATF), as the global monitoring body for ML and TF, aims to prevent these illegal activities and the harm they cause to society through the development of the FATF Recommendations, or FATF Standards.

Through the powers and responsibilities accorded under the Criminal Asset Recovery Order, 2012 (CARO), Anti-Terrorism Order, 2011 (ATO), and Anti-Terrorism (Terrorist Financing) Regulations, 2013 (TFR), the FIU plays a pivotal role in the fight against ML, associated predicate offences, and TF.
