Illegal Usage of Brunei Darussalam Currency Notes Images

Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB) has been made aware of photos containing images of the Brunei Darussalam currency notes that have been circulating through text messages and social media across the country. 

 

BDCB would like to remind the public that, in accordance with Section 21 (1) of the Currency Order, 2004, no person shall manufacture, sell, circulate or distribute any merchandise or produce containing any design or part of any Brunei Darussalam currency note or coin, in any size, scale or colour, or to use the same in any advertisement except with the permission of BDCB. 

 

It is also an offence under Section 21 (2) of the Currency Order to import, manufacture, sell, circulate any merchandise or produce containing any design or part thereof as used on any Brunei Darussalam currency note or coin without BDCB’s permission. 

 

Any persons who is found committing such offence is liable on conviction to a fine, imprisonment for a term not exceeding 15 years, or both.

 

BDCB is committed to maintaining the quality and upholding the integrity of the Brunei currency and coins in circulation and to safeguarding domestic financial and monetary systems.
